In 2017 I was invited to graduation at Valley Forge Military College in Wayne, PA. I attendance was three retired military officers, U.S Army General, H.R. McMaster, Col. John Church, USMCR and General Clifford Stanley, USMC.
Leaders are Learners!
Between these 3 officers, I counted their formal education achievements – 6 Master, 1 PhD and 1 EdU. In addition, to counting their education achievements I discovered all of these gentlemen are acknowledged for their leadership skills and accomplishments. It was a no brainer to assessment this simple insight – Leaders are Learners! What are we doing to learn?
Let’s review resources we can use to meet the Leaders are Learners insight:
- Enroll in our local colleges and universities.
- Go to our local library. They have a wealth of knowledge and information for free.
- Take online courses. My favorite course for learning – Learning How to Learn – Powerful mental tools to help you master tough subjects via Coursera.org.
- Take advantage of any resources our companies or organizations may offer.
- Ask our colleagues and friends. What are they learning? What are they reading?
- Pay forward any insights or knowledge you may have learned.
- It is so easy to get caught up in our day to day activities and forget that learning is a critical habit to keep. Let’s set some learning goals for 2020.
